SQL Alerts

The Business Alerts functionality of GP is an area that doesn’t get much coverage or much use, but it’s an area I’ve been meaning to make use of more.  Ron Wilson over at the Real Live Dynamics User blog has this post up about a new series of posts on creating alerts that will notify users if a certain condition exists or event takes places.  This is pretty much exactly what Business Alerts does inside of GP – creates a SQL Agent job that checks your data for certain criteria, then can notify you by email of that conditon.  Unfortunately the Business Alerts interface is a bit clunky and it’s just as easy to do it in SQL Management Studio. I’m looking forward to Ron’s series of posts with examples of alerts he’s actually using with GP.

Thanks Andy! I agree that the Business Alerts is somewhat "clunky" as you put it. The beauty of the "alerts" is that they are not different than any query you run...just add a schedule and some email intelligence to it and it becomes an alert.
